Mommy Makeover

Restore and Revitalize Your Radiant Pre-Pregnancy Glow...

Having a child is a life-changing experience that brings joy and love into your life. However, it can also affect your figure. With a mommy makeover, you can achieve a rejuvenated appearance. The Mommy Makeover can typically involve a tummy tuck with a breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction in addition to liposuction of the flanks and hips. The Mommy Makeover is a fantastic way to boost a woman’s self-confidence as it restores and rejuvenates a woman’s figure to a more youthful, pre-pregnancy appearance.

Due to Dr. Laliberte’s expertise in body contouring, he routinely performs surgical body procedures, one of the most popular being a full Mommy Makeover. A Mommy Makeover is a very popular surgical procedure to revitalize and rejuvenate the body and breasts, removing unwanted stretch marks and excess skin pockets.

Mommy Makeover in Calgary, Edmonton, Banff and Canmore helps many women refine body contours to achieve a proportional, fit appearance and a more confident, youthful self-image.

Mommy Makeover Benefits

Lower Costs

When you opt for a mommy makeover, you’ll only have to pay any associated fees once. This includes the anesthesiologist, surgeon, and facility fees, so you’ll enjoy a lower overall expense for the same great results.

Shorter Recovery period

One of the greatest benefits of a mommy makeover is that it combines a number of procedures into a single surgical session. For busy moms, this is absolutely crucial as it means you’ll only have one recovery period to schedule.

More Dramatic results

Sometimes a combination surgery is recommended because some cosmetic procedures compliment others. For example, by combining a breast lift with a breast augmentation or a tummy tuck with breast surgery, you’ll be able to enjoy a more dramatic and comprehensive overall result.

Reduced Risks

By undergoing one combined procedure instead of multiple ones, you’ll significantly lower your surgical risk. In addition to this, you’ll only have to undergo one round of anesthesia, which will decrease the risks associated with going under the medication.

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy makeover procedure is an extremely popular procedure for women who want to correct some of the undesirable physical changes that sometimes come with childbirth and breastfeeding. This procedure is personalized to each patient’s specific needs and aesthetic goals, but will typically include breast and body procedures aimed at restoring the areas most affected by pregnancy.

Am I a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

Many women who have finished having children are bothered by some of the physical changes in their body that can occur with childbirth and breast feeding. This usually presents as excess deflated skin in the abdomen and a loss of fullness to the breasts. The mommy makeover is a great way to boost self-confidence as it restores and enhances a woman’s figure to a more youthful, pre-pregnancy appearance.

Good candidates are women with:

  • Deflated breast size and shape following breastfeeding

  • Drooping nipples and stretched out large areolas

  • Excess sagging abdominal skin and stretch marks

  • A waistline that has become thick and lacks definition

  • Pockets of fat to their abdomen, flanks, and thighs that are resistant to diet and exercise

  • A C-section scar that creates an indentation with fat hanging over top

  • Finished having kids, are in good health, and have a stable weight

Your Mommy Makeover Surgery Options

A mommy makeover usually combines body contouring procedures and cosmetic breast surgery. Dr. Laliberte and our healthcare team will create a specific surgical plan following a consultation, during which we will discuss your aesthetic goals and performs a thorough physical exam. Based on our observations and expertise, we will discuss your mommy makeover options, including:

Breast Augmentation

Breast Lift

Breast Reduction

The Mommy Makeover Procedure

The Mommy makeover procedure is very popular because it addresses multiple concerns and can most often be completed in a single operation. Having just one surgery reduces the total time you will need to be placed under general anesthesia and shortens your recovery time. The recovery for abdominoplasty will take longer than breast augmentation or a breast lift. Board-Certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Laliberte will walk you through the mommy makeover options and discuss how the sequence of surgeries would be performed.

Common procedures include a combination of the following:

Breast Augmentation

The surgical placement of breast implants can increase the fullness and projection of the breasts, improve symmetry, enlarge a naturally small breast, restore breast volume lost following pregnancy and/or breastfeeding, and enhance self-image and self-confidence.  The results are immediately visible and over time the breasts will settle naturally.

Breast Lift

A Mastopexy raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Sometimes the areola becomes enlarged overtime and a breast lift will reduce this. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is youthful and uplifted. Breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast.

Breast Augmentation With Lift

If you want your breasts to look fuller, you may want to consider breast lift with augmentation surgery. A breast lift may be a good option if you are bothered by the feeling that your breasts sag, have lost shape and volume, your nipples or areolas point downward, you have stretched and enlarged areolas or one breast is lower than the other. In combination with a breast augmentation, you will have the lift and desired fullness.

Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck procedure will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight. In most cases a tummy tuck restores weakened o separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. Previous abdominal surgery may limit the potential results of a tummy tuck. In women who have undergone cesarean section, the existing scars may often be incorporated into the new scar.

Slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposit, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image. In some cases, liposuction is performed alone, in other cases it is used with plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast lift, breast augmentation, or tummy tuck to complete the mommy makeover.

Is It Worth Getting a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy makeover procedure is becoming very popular because as it addresses a number of concerns in a single operation. That offers patients a number of benefits compared to having several separate procedures. Those advantages include:

  • A single recovery period: With a mommy makeover, you only need to arrange for time off work, household help, etc. all within one period. Your discomfort and recovery period will be consolidated, rather than spread out and prolonged across multiple individual procedures.
  • Your satisfaction: The majority of patients enjoy the feeling of seeing the physical improvements all at once, rather than spread out over multiple procedures.

The duration of the surgery will depend on the procedures performed and the extent of the surgery required. After you have recovered from the general anesthesia – typically two hours after surgery – you will be discharged to the care of a friend or loved one, who should stay with you overnight. You will receive detailed post-op directions to ensure your recovery is as seamless as possible.

Each patient’s experience is different to some degree, however, Mommy Makeover patients typically take around two weeks off from work in order to get their healing well underway. You will wear a compression garment for several weeks for support and to assist with the healing process, and you will be advised to keep your activity level light to moderate. Dr. Laliberte will advise you as to when you can safely begin exercise and other strenuous activities. You can generally expect mild-moderate discomfort of the breast, which will gradually improve over 3-5 days.

Swelling to the breasts usually subsides after three weeks, but can sometimes be longer. If you have received a breast augmentation, they may sit higher on the chest wall. This is normal. It may take several weeks for the implants to lower into place as the skin and muscle stretch to accommodate your new breast implants. You may experience moderate discomfort and tightness in your abdominal area, which will typically improve over about 1 week. During this time, your ability to stand up straight will also increase. If your work-life keeps you sedentary, you may plan on returning to work in 10-14 days, with the understanding that you may still have discomfort with motion. You will need to avoid lifting anything heavier than 10 pounds for 6 weeks and avoid any strenuous exercise and activities for 6 weeks.

Recovery tips

You should not try to rush your recovery, but there are certain things you can do to help your body’s natural healing process.

  • Eat well
  • Stay hydrated
  • Rest up

The Mommy Makeover Frequently Asked Questions

Mommy makeover is a term used to describe procedures performed on women after their childbearing years. This usually includes a change to the breast as well as the abdominal wall. These procedures include such things as breast augmentation breast lift liposuction and abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a Tummy Tuck.
Frequently, procedures are combined in a mommy makeover in order to minimize downtime. Many of the procedures can safely be combined.
There is always scarring associated with surgery. An abdominoplasty, a breast lift, as well as a breast augmentation all involve some form of scarring; however, these generally heal very well and are positioned strategically to be hidden by any bikini or bra garments.

If you are considering having more children it would be unwise to have a mommy makeover. Additional pregnancies would have the same effects on the breast and abdomen as the initial pregnancy did. Therefore you may require further revisionary procedures. While there is no contraindication to becoming pregnant after a mommy makeover it would be more practical to wait until after the childbearing years have been completed.

A mommy makeover is a significant commitment and investment. We would hope that the patient would be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and maintain an ideal body weight postoperatively as with any healthy lifestyle. This would consist of avoiding smoking and excessive weight gain. With regards to the breasts, we do recommend patients continue to wear breast support to minimize gravitational effects on the breasts.
