What Is Hand Rejuvenation?
The skin on our hands reveals telltale signs of aging just as much as our facial skin. However, hand rejuvenation treatments can provide a youthful appearance for the hands.
Hand rejuvenation surgery is used to reverse the signs of the aging process such as loss of volume, and restore a youthful shape to the hands. The results can be quite dramatic as well as being very natural.
Hand rejuvenation surgery is performed using SAFE lipo-sculpting and fat grafting/transfer to the hand. Surgery typically takes 1 hour.

Hand Rejuvenation – The Procedure
A liposuction procedure must be performed first in order to collect the fat to graft to the hands. Fat is typically collected from the hips, thighs, or stomach area but can be taken from anywhere on the body that has excess fatty tissue deposits.
The collected fat will then be purified of any contaminants in preparation for grafting. A small needle will make a pilot hole at the wrist for a cannula to be inserted. Once inserted, the cannula will distribute the collected fat to any volume deficient area of the hand.
When the procedure is complete, the cannula will be removed. The hand may be massaged to ensure even distribution of the fat.
The goal of hand rejuvenation is to add volume to the hands’ wrinkled areas, covering underlying vessels and tendons while improving the quality of the skin.
How Should I Prepare For A Hand Rejuvenation Procedure?
Before the procedure, Dr. Laliberte will review your medical history. Dr. Laliberte will discuss expectations, potential risks and outcomes of the procedure. You will need to advise Dr. Laliberte of any:
- Prescription medicines
- Over-the-counter medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen
- Herbal supplements
What Can I Expect Following The Hand Rejuvenation Procedure
Following the procedure, ice may be given to ease discomfort and swelling. Avoid applying firm pressure on the treatment area. You may experience one of more of the following reactions at the injection sites:
- Bruising, which may last up to a week
- Swelling
- Redness
Some patients require maintenance treatments to achieve the best results.
