Liposuction | Body Contouring Benefits
INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE
One of the biggest reasons to get liposuction is to boost your self-confidence. Fortunately, with liposuction, you can finally feel sexy, attractive, and confident. In fact, you may also experience more energy following your surgery.
LOWERED BLOOD FAT LEVELS
There have been studies linking liposuction to a reduction of triglycerides in patients with high blood fat levels pre-surgery. Lowering your triglycerides improves your heart health.
INCREASED MOBILITY
The pockets of fat that would be targeted by liposuction may have previously limited your mobility. In addition to a positive effect on joints, patients may experience enhanced mobility after choosing liposuction. Increased mobility is connected to a more active lifestyle and the health benefits of moving freely are numerous.
IMPROVED OVERALL HEALTH
Weight loss can be linked to lowered risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced inflammation in the body and improved mood and self esteem. Liposuction is a great way to target those areas that dieting and exercise cannot affect. Liposuction can help your body and mind feel great.

What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses a suction technique to remove fat from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, or neck. Liposuction also shapes (contours) these areas. Liposuction is also referred to as body contouring.
You may be a candidate for liposuction if you have too much body fat in specific spots but otherwise have stable body weight.
SAFE Lipo-Sculpting – Liposuction
Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving your body contours and proportion, and ultimately enhancing your self-image.
Dr. Laliberte’s Liposuction procedure follows a 3-step process of fat separation, aspiration and fat equalization is a comprehensive body reshaping procedure that can consistently produce dramatic, smooth and natural contours.
In some cases, SAFE liposuction is performed alone; in other cases, it is used to complement other plastic surgery procedures. Surgery typically takes 1-2 hours or longer if added to improve another complimentary surgery.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost?
Each of our patient’s cases is unique, however, the average cost of SAFE Lipo-Sculpting can range starting from $3,500 and up when combined with other surgical procedures or $6,500 and up when performed alone.
Liposuction & Body Contouring Benefits
Dr. Laliberte perform liposuction to remove additional and stubborn fat from areas of the body that haven’t responded to diet and exercise, such as the:
- Abdomen
- Upper arms
- Lower Buttocks
- Chest and back
- Hips and thighs
- Chin and neck
- In addition, liposuction can additionally be used for breast reduction or the treatment of gynecomastia.
When weight is gained, fat cells typically increase in size and volume. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in a specific area. The amount of fat removed depends on the appearance of the area and the volume of fat. The resulting contour changes are generally permanent, given that your weight remains stable.
After the liposuction procedure, your skin molds itself to the new contours of the treatment area. If you have great skin tone and elasticity, the skin is likely to appear smooth.
To be a candidate for liposuction, you must be in good health without conditions that could complicate surgery — such as restricted blood flow, coronary artery disease, diabetes or a weak immune system.
Liposuction & Body Contouring – The Procedure
How Should I Prepare For Liposuction?
Food and medications
Before the procedure, you will discuss with Dr. Laliberte what to expect from the surgery. Dr. Laliberte will review your medical history, and ask about any medical conditions you may have, along with any medications or supplements you may be taking.
Before the procedure
Before your liposuction procedure, the surgeon may mark circles and lines on the areas of your body to be treated. Photos also may be taken so that before and after images can be compared.
How your liposuction procedure is done depends on the specific technique that’s used. Dr. Laliberte will select the appropriate technique based on your treatment goals and the area of your body to be treated.
During the procedure
Some liposuction procedures may require only local or regional anesthesia — anesthesia limited to a specific area of your body. Other procedures may require general anesthesia, which induces a temporary state of unconsciousness. You may be given a sedative, typically through an IV injection, to help you remain calm and relaxed.
Our surgical team will monitor your heart rate, blood pressure and blood oxygen level throughout the procedure and the procedure may last up to several hours, depending on the extent of fat removal.
After the procedure
Following the procedure, you’ll typically spend at least a few hours in the hospital or clinic so that medical personnel can monitor your recovery. Expect some pain, swelling and bruising following the liposuction procedure. Your surgeon may prescribe medication to help control the pain and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection.
After the procedure, Dr. Laliberte may leave your incisions open and place temporary drains to promote fluid drainage. You usually need to wear tight compression garments, which help reduce swelling, for a few weeks.
You may need to wait a few days before returning to work and a few weeks before resuming your normal activities — including exercise. During this time, expect some contour irregularities as the remaining fat settles into position.
Liposuction & Body Contouring – The Recovery
Dr. Laliberte will have provided you with a compression garment to wrap around the treatment areas. It’s important to wear these diligently, as they help to reduce swelling and contour your body to its new shape.
You may also have small drains placed at the surgical sites. These prevent fluid from building up around the incisions, which can slow healing. If you have these drains, Dr. Laliberte will advise you exactly how to care for them and how long you will have them in.
During the first few days of recovery, you can typically expect moderate pain and soreness. You should plan to limit your activity during this time as well. Your compression garments may restrict your movements, but it’s also important to limit unnecessary activity when possible.
Recovery tips
You should not try to rush your recovery, but there are certain things you can do to help your body’s natural healing process.
- Eat well
- Stay hydrated
- Rest up
Liposuction & Body Contouring Frequently Asked Questions
The most frequently treated areas in women are the abdomen, breasts, hips, outer thighs, anterior thighs, inner thighs, knees, arms, buttocks, cheeks and neck. In men, the most commonly treated areas include the chin and neck area, abdomen, flanks (“love-handles”), and breasts.
Liposuction that is performed by a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon under local, IV sedation or general anesthesia is very safe. The determination of anesthesia type would be made based on the number of areas being addressed and the projected amount of fat expected for removal.
When compared to other surgical procedures, liposuction is one of the safest. The procedure is non-invasive; the liposuction cannula is a narrow stainless-steel tube that removes subcutaneous fat through a very small insertion cut in the skin.
Liposuction removes fat from undesirable areas of the body. With liposuction the surgical incisions are small and recovery time is minimal. Liposuction by itself does not tighten excess skin from massive weight loss or childbirth.
A tummy tuck involves removing excess fat and skin and begins with surgery to correct and tighten weakened abdominal wall muscles. A tummy tuck’s surgical area is larger, and the incision is longer. Neither procedure is for weight loss, rather they both help boost your body confidence with a slimmer appearance and help you achieve your ideal body contour. Dr. Laliberte will perform an examination of your abdominal muscles and any excess skin and stretch marks to determine if a tummy tuck is necessary.
Because the modern cannula (microcannula) is a small instrument, scars are tiny or unnoticeable. Redness will coincide with how many insertion points are necessary for the procedure and will depend on the skin’s elasticity and this will fade over time. Dr. Laliberte will discuss ideal locations for discrete insertion points and the best ways you can minimize redness and care for your skin after liposuction.
Fat cells removed via liposuction are permanently removed; however, we recommend you maintain a stable weight to keep new fat from coming back to problem areas. Be sure to exercise and eat a healthy diet to help achieve long-lasting results.
