What You Need to Know About Botox

Did you know that a typical Botox treatment session can be completed in less than 20 minutes?

Botox treatments are not only a great way to smooth out facial wrinkles, but it’s also a simple way to prevent certain types of wrinkles from forming or deepening and is drastically gaining popularity throughout Calgary, Edmonton, Canmore, and Banff!

So…What is Botox?

Botox is a cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, or Onobotulinumtoxin A, a neurotoxin that is used to “freeze” muscles. There are four types of Onobotulinumtoxin A, including Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® and Jeuveau®. A Botox injection blocks nerve signals to the muscle, meaning it cannot contract. As contractions are responsible for highlighting and deepening existing wrinkles, Botox injections act to give your face a smoother, younger appearance.

What kind of results can you expect from Botox?

Results from a Botox can typically take up to 14 days to be fully noticed, however,  you may begin seeing results as early as 3-5 days after treatment.

As Botox begins to freeze the treatment area, you will be able to see the lines soften and wrinkles visibly diminish. Depending on the severity of your wrinkles and the surface area that you wish to have treated, you may choose to have more than one Botox treatment to achieve your desired results.

What to expect From Botox injections

During the procedure

The duration of the procedure will vary based on the areas that are being treated as well as the amount of Botox being utilized.

As the needle used for treatment is so fine, usually no numbing or anesthesia is usually required. Nurse injector Annalisa will be able to pinpoint the precise points on your face that require an injection, therefore, it can be a relatively quick procedure that is essentially painless.

If you are a little nervous about experiencing pain or discomfort, be sure to tell nurse injector Annalisa,  so that she can apply a numbing agent if required.

After the procedure

There is no recovery time following a Botox treatment. You may slight residual soreness or swelling around the injection sites shortly after treatment, however,  it is important to not rub or massage the area to prevent the Botox from migrating.

Occasionally patients find it helpful and soothing to apply a cold pack or take an over-the-counter painkiller such as Tylenol to reduce the swelling and slight discomfort. Any discomfort will typically subside entirely within 24 hours of treatment.

Bring back your youthful look with Botox

While Botox is by no means a permanent solution, it is an excellent way to soften existing wrinkles and slow the formation of new ones. It can also be safely used alongside other cosmetic procedures such as dermal fillers and facial rejuvenation surgery.

Botox treatments are one of the greatest simple and easy ways to regain your youth and help you look as radiant on the outside as you feel on the inside.
