How can I diminish wrinkles and signs of aging?

You might feel 25 at heart, but when you look in the mirror your face may say something different… and this is where most of us start to feel anxious. This is where that correlation of age with physical appearance comes into play. It’s probably safe to say that when most people love how they look on the outside, they probably feel pretty great on the inside, and vice versa. This is where the importance of self-care comes in.

Whether it’s using great skincare products, getting that new hair cut or color job, maintaining your Botox® or Juvéderm filler injections, or even going that extra few miles and getting a surgery like a facelift or a mommy makeover, whatever it is, self-care and aging well go hand in hand. Not because we necessarily want to look younger. It’s not about turning back the clock, but it is about enhancing features that make us feel confident and good about ourselves. When we feel good, when we feel happy, there’s less stress and less anxiety – which happen to be two major contributing factors that age us faster both on the inside and out.

How can I prevent aging with Botox®?

Botox® is widely known throughout North America as one of the most effective anti-wrinkle treatments available. The vast majority of people who get Botox® injections want to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles already etched into their skin, but in the past few years, we have started noticing younger patients come in for Botox® injections at our Canmore practice to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and other early signs of aging.

It isn’t a total coincidence that the uptick of interest in preventive Botox® corresponds with the use of social media, Zoom calls, and the popularity of selfies. Women and men in their 20s and early 30s are constantly posting photos to multiple social apps and want to put their best faces forward. The number of people in that age group getting Botox® and dermal filler injections is undoubtedly increasing.

So, is Botox® actually able to delay the onset of facial wrinkles and lines for someone in their 20s and 30s?

How Botox® Works

Botox® is a neuromodulator that selectively weakens certain facial muscles to reduce crow’s feet, frown lines and horizontal forehead wrinkles. These are called dynamic wrinkles because they are gradually caused by changing facial expressions. Botox® injections limit the movement of the muscles involved in making these expressions, additionally postponing the development of wrinkles due to those facial movements.

Your First Botox® Treatment

The Botox® procedure is fairly straightforward. During your consultation, our Nurse Injectors will work with you to understand your cosmetic goals and expectations for the treatment, also discussing what to expect and discuss during and following the treatment.

It is essential to choose a highly trained and experienced injector to clearly understand your aesthetic goals. The procedure itself only lasts a few minutes and does not involve any downtime. The results from Botox® injections typically last around 4 months and are best complemented with an ongoing injectable treatment plan, a good skincare regimen, and a healthy lifestyle.
